Full Time Airstream Life Year Two: August Camping Reviews

August is officially the start of our full time Airstream journey, so with the coming of August we started our second year on the road as full time RVers! We absolutely loved our time home in Washington and feel so grateful for all the friends and family we got to spend time with while we were home. But if we're being honest, it feels great to be back on the road again! August found us at our first ever Airstream Club International Rally and exploring familiar and new places in our second favorite state of Oregon. Read on for reviews of our camping spots!

We joined the Airstream Club last year, but didn't get to attend any rallies, or connect with other club members during year one on the road. We were so excited when we saw that the Washington chapter of the club was holding a national rally at the Washington Land Yacht Harbor (WLHY) in Lacey! We had so much fun spending the week with other Airstreamers and getting to show off our home state to members from all over the US and Canada. We love all the improvements that the Harbor is making to the Terraport (RV parking) and know we will back there again!

We love Hood River, Oregon and were so excited to book a spot at Viento State Park just outside of downtown Hood River. The campground has a path to walk down to the Columbia River and direct access to the Columbia Highway Trail so we were so excited for this spot! Sadly, we got no sleep for a week due to the train tracks being right next to the park! Oh well, can't win 'em all! At least we got to enjoy riding our bikes on the Columbia Highway Trail and visiting with family while we were there.

In true #teamtiegs fashion, we have met so many cool people along our journey that have invited us to come stay and boondock with them. We got to know Linda and her sister Karen on our Rick Steves Best of Italy in 17 Days tour and Linda offered to have us boondock at her place in Bend, OR any time! We already knew that we were traveling through Bend in August, so we adjusted our plans to take advantage of her offer. Full hookups, grazing deer outside our window, and easy driving distance to Bend? Perfection! We are so grateful for this generous offer from our new friend Linda.

Collier Memorial State Park was devastated by wildfires in 2020, but it is still beautiful and picturesque. This is the closest state park to Crater Lake National Park, makes it a popular destination in the summer. We enjoyed camping underneath the pine trees and walking the miles of trails in the park, including to a logging museum within the park. If only we hadn't had to do constant battle with the chipmunks in the park! They were brutal! If you decide to camp here, make sure you are prepared with your peppermint essential oil to keep those rodents out of your car and pantry!

In August, we also took advantage of two Boondockers Welcome hosts through our Harvest Hosts membership. We have found this membership to be absolutely worth the annual subscription cost of $139 per year. Every Boondockers Welcome host we have stayed with has been so kind and gracious and the hosts in Lakeview and Eugene, OR were no exception. We definitely think the cost of the membership is worth it and would recommend it to any RVer, full time or part time!

We loved our time in the PNW, and we still haven't found any place in the country that we think is as beautiful. We are looking forward to exploring more new places in the coming months and continuing to find all the beauty this country has to offer.
