Full Time Airstream Life: Two Years of our Travel Facts

This week, we are celebrating two incredible years of embracing the full-time RV life in our fabulous Airstream, Tabitha! Time has flown by, and we are amazed by the countless extraordinary adventures we've experienced in the various places we've explored. Despite being caught up in work to support this thrilling journey, we couldn't resist taking a moment to commemorate our second anniversary by reviewing our travel data. Read on if you're a data nerd like us!

In Year Two, we drove 1,488 miles less while towing and 2,796 miles less in total compared to Year One.

Our average drive day was a bit longer in Year Two compared to Year One's average of 132 miles.

We spent on average $3 more per month on diesel this year, but spent $446 less for the year. Go figure!

This year, we had significantly fewer opportunities for free camping nights compared to last year's 39%, mainly because we didn't go back to WA this summer to be parked at home for free!

In Year Two, you'll witness our undying love for setting up camp in state parks – oh, the joys of communing with nature! But let's face it, sometimes we had to suck it up and park our RV in those fancy RV parks to get within an easy driveof our final destination. And don't even get me started on surviving the summer swelter in the Midwest and East – we quickly learned that full hookups were our lifeline to keeping cool with the A/C blasting!

Guess what? This year, we didn't park Tabitha at Disney or in the Florida Keys. Instead, we ended up having our most extravagant night (of all places, in Connecticut!) for way less than the $212 we splurged on back in year one. Who would've thought, right?

Despite having fewer free camping nights this year, our average nightly cost remained nearly identical to last year at $28. We have successfully struck a balance by boondocking on BLM land during appropriate times (such as fall and winter in the Southwest) and opting for paid hookups when needed (like in the spring and summer in the Midwest and East).

We're kicking off our third year of living the Airstream life full-time. Got any questions about our RV stats or what it's like living as full-timers? Feel free to ask!
