We're now four months in to living the full time Airstream life and feel like we're starting to get into a good routine. We have found that we definitely prefer to keep our drive days under 200 miles whenever possible, but stringing too many single night stops back to back in an attempt to keep long drive days to a minimum can be just as tiring! November brought us lots of Harvest Host stops, some state parks, and our first Airstream only luxury resort. Read on for reviews of our November stops!
McKinney Falls State Park is just outside of Austin, TX and well located for exploring Austin. As a state park, it was reasonably priced and we enjoyed lots of walking on the miles of trails.
We stayed at two Boondockers Welcome sites in November, one outside of Austin in Texas Hill Country, and one in Friendswood, Texas. Our Austin hosts were truly the nicest, most generous hosts we could ever have imagined (check out our Instagram page) and the hosts in Friendswood were also fabulous. If you travel or live full time on the road, you need to make sure you have Boondockers Welcome added to your Harvest Hosts membership.
We Moochdocked two nights with some dear friends in Friendswood, Texas. Friends who let you park in their driveway, use their electricity, and even let you shower are pure gold in full time RV life! Thanks Anne and Alan!
We stayed at six different Harvest Hosts locations in November; four locations in Texas and two in Louisiana. In at least a few cases, we proved the joke that you end up staying way more to stay at a Harvest Hosts stop than you would if you had just paid for camping. But we enjoyed Mead, multiple wine tastings, Michelle got to buy some alpaca yarn to knit a baby sweater and we had a delicious Louisiana dinner in a place we never would have stopped. So far, we are happy with our Harvest Host stops, but we will likely keep a closer eye on the nightly costs going forward.
I'm not sure there are enough good things to say about The Range Vintage Trailer Resort. The cost of staying here was half of our monthly camping expenses, but we felt it was worth every penny. The Range has campsites available for Airstreams only, or they have multiple other vintage trailers available for rent for the weekend. We are so glad we splurged and booked the magical tree site, as it is truly the best site in the park. They have Friday and Saturday night dinners in their gorgeous barn and we enjoyed getting to chat with other Airstream owners and full-time RVers. The owners are attentive and the whole resort is beautiful. We would absolutely return and bring friends! If you are an Airstream owner, put The Range on your travel to-visit list for sure! https://therangevtr.com/
We were so excited to camp in Galveston, Texas right on the beach. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and it poured down rain from almost our first moments on the island. We did get one windy walk on the beach in before the storm came in. If you want to have an RV spot with a view of the waves and easy access to the beach, Delanera RV park is a good, and reasonably priced option.
St, Bernard State Park, is the closest Louisiana state park to New Orleans, which is absolutely why we chose it. The park is lovely and forested, with a mile long nature walk we enjoyed. But it's selling point was it's 30 minute drive to the French Quarter. We would stay there again when we return to New Orleans!
