ABOUT TEAM TIEGS

Hi, we're Steve, Michelle, and Salto Tiegs. We live full time in our 25 foot Airstream International Travel Trailer. We believe that travel is an amazing way to learn about yourself and strengthen your relationship. We seek out novel experiences; especially if they involve adventure, food, live music, and new experiences.

We hope our blog inspires you travel and look for opportunities to grow together as a couple!

MEET MICHELLE

Hi I’m Michelle, I’m the voice behind most of the writing here on Team Tiegs Travels. I have worked in education for my entire career; I’ve worked in music education, for-profit education, special education, and educational leadership. I find it really difficult to turn the teacher in me off!

I consider myself to be a raging extrovert! I love people! My favorite thing in the world is getting to know people and building relationships. Steve likes to joke that I can make a new friend in line at the grocery store in under 2 minutes. Things that bring me joy and fill my bucket are: spending time in nature, practicing yoga, knitting, baking, reading tarot cards, eating a delicious meal, and most of all live music! If I get to do any of those things with something I love, even better.

I love a good personality assessment! If you’re curious, I identify as:

  • Myers Briggs: ESFJ

  • Enneagram: 1

  • Astrological Sign: Taurus Sun with Libra Moon & Rising

  • True Colors: Gold

  • Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw

I am a HUGE Brene Brown fan, so here are my answers to the  rapid fire questions she asks at the end of every episode of the Unlocking Us Podcast.

  1. Fill in the blank:  Vulnerability is the way to build strong and trusting relationships.

  2. You’re called to do something brave, but your fear is real and stuck in your throat.  What’s the first thing you do? Take a deep breath and feel the places my body makes contact with the earth.

  3. What is something that people often get wrong about you? I am such a stinkin’ open book that it is rare for anyone to get anything wrong about me!

  4. What’s the last show that you binged and loved? The Crown, Huzzah!

  5. Give us a film you really love? As a Tacoma native, it will always and forever be 10 Things I Hate About You.

  6. Give us a concert you’ll never forget? This is the hardest question because there are so many! This is a tie between getting to sit front row at Brandi Carlile’s first headlining Gorge show in 2019 when Tim made eye contact with Steve and gave him the “rock on” fingers, OR getting to sit front row at the John Mayer Sob Rock Tour show at Climate Pledge Arena in 2022 and getting to interact with John’s stage left guitarist David Ryan Harris so much that the people next to us asked if we know David. (We totally know David :) )

  7. What’s your favorite meal? I love anything Steve makes for me; he is such a great cook. But if I have to choose my last meal, it would be homemade pasta with bolognese sauce

  8. What’s on your nightstand right now? In our last house I had my Philips Smart Sleep Light Alarm clock (game changer for waking up in the dark of winter), my kindle, my phone, a glass of water, my L-theanine, and a variety of relaxing essential oils. Now I don’t have a night stand!

  9. Give us a snapshot of an ordinary moment in your life that brings you great joy? I love a slow morning, drinking coffee, cuddling with Salto, and reading something on my Kindle

  10. What is the one thing you’re deeply grateful for right now? That the pandemic allowed us to save money, and that Steve’s bosses are so supportive of him working remotely from the road. We could not be having this experience without either of those things happening and I will never not be grateful for what we’ve lived through in order to get to this place in our lives.

MEET STEVE

Hi All! Steve here... I don't know if I'm the brains, brawn, or beauty behind Team Tiegs but I'm glad to be a part of it any way I can. I tend towards the absurd or ridiculous (which can be a bit much at times) but I figure if it brings joy to the world... why not?!

I am the most extroverted person in a group of introverts, and the most introverted person in a group of extroverts. I enjoy getting to know people and listening to stories. I'm great with faces... I will forget your name, but remember that story you told me... and greet you as "Hey, you're the person who met Sting in a convenience store in Topeka, Kansas!" We all have weird super powers... that one is mine.

I enjoy music, time in nature, physical activities, movies (particularly weird or scary movies... and RomComs), and TRAVEL!

I, too, enjoy personality tests and can be found in...

  • Myers Briggs: INTP (Michelle's EXACT opposite)

  • Enneagram: 9

  • Astrological Sign: Libra Sun with Cancer Moon & Sagittarius Rising

  • True Colors: Green (Curious and Innovative)

  • Hogwarts House: Slytherin!!

Michelle rapidly fired these questions at me... or maybe I've thought about them every time we listen to the Unlocking Us Podcast.

  1. Fill in the blank:  Vulnerability is HARD!

  2. You’re called to do something brave, but your fear is real and stuck in your throat.  What’s the first thing you do? If it's an emergency situation, I start an OODA loop... Observe, Orient, Decide, Act (repeat). If it's a social situation... close my eyes and breathe to lower my heart rate.

  3. What is something that people often get wrong about you? When I think deeply about something I look angry... so I'd say people don't know how silly I can be.

  4. What’s the last show that you binged and loved? We almost always watch shows together... and I loved The Crown... but we also watched Community for the first time in 2020. It was fantastic!

  5. Give us a film you really love? Everything, Everywhere, All at Once... IT WAS AMAZING!!!

  6. Give us a concert you’ll never forget? UGH... Brandi Carlile with the Seattle Symphony February 2020? Ray LaMontagne Fall 2019? Our VERY FIRST John Mayer concert in 2003?

  7. What’s your favorite meal? I make a fabulous zucchini noodle lasagna with a pine nut ricotta... but if we're talking a last meal, I have to make my way back to Happy Teriyaki on River Road in Puyallup. The Happy Trio. This is such a great meal... for 4-6 people... so bring friends.

  8. What’s on your nightstand right now? When I had a night stand it included a salt lamp, Nintendo Switch, and the container for my night-guard... I grind my teeth.

  9. Give us a snapshot of an ordinary moment in your life that brings you great joy? Taking a walk with Michelle. We have the best conversations wandering through a park or on a trail.

  10. What is the one thing you’re deeply grateful for right now? For an amazing human who wants to go on this journey with me to see the world. I don't know if I could do this without Michelle... sometimes I won't leave the house for a week unless she suggests it. Her planning skills will be invaluable! Love you!

MEET SALTO

Hi, I’m Salto! I’m a 13 year old Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin) and my parents rescued me when I was a little over a year old. I had a pretty rough first year of my life and came to my parents with shock collar scars and a lot of doggie drama. My mom likes to joke that I have APES, Adverse Puppyhood Experiences, and they are still present in my fear of tall men, baseball hats, and the sound of motorcycles. I’ve come a long way, and while I am still leary of people I don’t know, I will eventually warm up to new people. Nothing makes me happier than spending the day cuddling with my mom.

I will sometimes play fetch, but I’m not very good at actually bringing the thing back to you. If I see a small furry creature I will chase it! Hey, it’s what I’m bred for!

And because my mom is a comedian, here are my answers to Brene Brown’s 10 Rapid Fire Questions:

  1. Fill in the blank:  Vulnerability is a trap! Never let them see you sweat, even if they are 10x your size!

  2. You’re called to do something brave, but your fear is real and stuck in your throat.  What’s the first thing you do? Bark bark bark bark bark bark bark!

  3. What is something that people often get wrong about you? That I’m small and defenseless. Take that 100 pound German Shepard!

  4. What’s the last show that you binged and loved? I loved getting to cuddle with mom while she watched season 2 of Bridgerton.

  5. Give us a film you really love? I’m just glad that mom and dad stream most of their movies so they don’t leave me as often.

  6. Give us a concert you’ll never forget? I like it when mom and dad go to The Gorge because that means I get to go spend the weekend at Mini Mutts Doggie Daycare!

  7. What’s your favorite meal? Anything covered in peanut butter.

  8. What’s on your nightstand right now? I sleep in bed with my parents. I am a great mini heater!

  9. Give us a snapshot of an ordinary moment in your life that brings you great joy? I love when mom has a slow morning and I get to be on her lap while she reads.

  10. What is the one thing you’re deeply grateful for right now? Mom isn’t going to work for 10 hours a day anymore! More walks, more cuddles!
